Tan Trao Communal House

Location: Tan Trao Communal House belongs to Tan Trao Special National Relic Complex in Tan Lap Village, Tan Trao Commune, Son Duong District, Tuyen Quang Province.

Characteristics: This was a venue to organize National People’s Congress – the great historical event which created the foundation for August Revolution’s Victory.

(TITC) - Tan Trao Communal House (former name of Kim Long) was built in the 6th year of King Tu Duc’s reign (1853) as a culture-belief centre of local people. The communal house worships the Tutelary god of village and seven gods of rivers, mountains surrounding the area of Kim Long Village.

 

In the Year of Pig (1923), the communal house was restored according to the architecture of stilt-house including three compartments and two lean-tos with palm leaf roof and boarded floor. The altar is placed in the centre compartment.

 

Historical Significance

Located in the critical military position with surrounding forests and mountains, Tan Trao Communal House was chosen to organize National People’s Congress (on 16-17 August, 1945). At the congress, the delegates agreed with the Party’s guideline on conducting General Uprising; approved 10 important policies of Viet Minh force; agreed to Viet Nam national flag with yellow star centered on a red background, national anthem of Tien quan ca (Song of Marching Troops) and appointed Viet Nam National Liberation Committee (Provisional Government) under President Ho Chi Minh. Also in this communal house, on 17 August 1945, on behalf of Viet Nam National Liberation Committee, President Ho Chi Minh took an oath at the National People’s Congress.

 

 

Tan Trao Banyan Tree

About 500m to the east of Tan Trao Communal House, Tan Trao banyan tree is one of the symbols of Tan Trao revolutionary land. At this banyan tree, on 16 August 1945, General Vo Nguyen Giap announced the Military Order No.1 to launch the General Uprising. After that, Viet Nam Liberation Force held a ceremony to go into battle with the presence of Tan Trao Commune’s people and 60 participants of the National People’s Congress.

 

Festivals

There are 3 main festivals which take place annually in the Tan Trao Communal House include crop praying festival (Cau mua) on the 4th day of the first lunar month, festival of going to the field (Ha dien) on the 4th day of the fifth lunar month and festival worshipping God of Agriculture (Thuong dien) on the 14th day of the seventh lunar month.

 

Tan Trao Communal House has become a famous destination of “back to the root” that contributes to educating patriotic tradition and national pride for Vietnamese generations.
