Festival looks to promote southern Khmer ethnic culture
Update: Nov 18, 2014
The 6th Culture, Sports and Tourism Festival of the Khmer ethnic people in southern Viet Nam will commence on November 27 in Hau Giang province.

The three-day event aims to honour and promote the culture of the Khmer people to domestic and international friends, said Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Tran Cong Chanh.

It will also contribute to building the cultural life, modernising rural areas, and developing tourism products in the province and the Mekong Delta region in general, he added.

A wide range of activities such as folk games, art performances, a food fair, and a workshop on tourism potential will be held during the festival, which will see the participation of 12 southern cities and provinces.

Viet Nam’s Khmer people mainly live in the Southwest region and worship at more than 453 Khmer pagodas.
