Update: Dec 13, 2012
A photo exhibition themed "40th anniversary of the Hanoi - Dien Bien Phu Victory in the Air" opened yesterday at 45 Trang Tien street in Hanoi by the Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Nearly 100 photos on display chronicle the historical events of the US attack by B-52 aircraft over 12 days and nights from December 18, 1972 on the capital Hanoi. They highlight the resilient and brave fighting spirit of Hanoi's people and army during the battle.

The images also introduce to visitors the life of Hanoians' today, as well as the capital's achievements in economics, culture and social development.

An arts exchange programme will be held on December 16 at the Hanoi Opera House to celebrate the occasion. In addition to performing arts, the programme will feature interviews with historical witnesses who achieved brilliant feats of arms in the fierce battle to protect Quang Tri Old Citadel, during 81 days and nights in 1972 and the Hanoi - Dien Bien Phu air battle.

The event, which will be broadcast live on the Vietnam Television Channel 2, is expected to raise nearly 3 billion VND to support martyrs' relatives, Vietnamese heroic mothers, Agent Orange/dioxin victims and war invalids living in difficult circumstances in Quang Tri province.
