Experts support nominating Duong Lam as world cultural heritage

At a workshop on Duong Lam ancient village, held in the afternoon of November 17 in Tokyo, Japan, Japanese and Vietnamese experts highlighted the specific cultural values of Duong Lam.

The values of the village are not only hundred - year old ancient houses, but also traditional festivals, popular special dishes, housing scenery, clan relations and the daily life of families.

Professor Hiromichi Tomoda from Chieu Hoa University, who has joined the project on Duong Lam ancient village preservation, said that the village is a living museum of Vietnam's traditional rural village.

"Duong Lam village is completely worthy of being a world heritage. The village has all the elements of a world heritage in terms of both quantity and quality, such as traditional houses and the scenery of the village. The village also has many specific intangible cultural values of Vietnam, recognizable for all Vietnamese people," she said.

Prof. Tomoda supported the nomination of Duong Lam ancient village as a world cultural heritage of UNESCO, because it will help improve the quality of preservation.

At the workshop, Vietnamese and Japanese experts together shared experiences on managing tourism development to preserve heritage.
