A group of 12 Lao businesspeople, including many billionaires, are scheduled to arrive in Phu Quoc island city of Kien Giang province on holiday from March 4-7.

They will fly Falcon 2000 to Vietnam from Laos, and Vina Phu Quoc Travel will receive the guests with vaccine passports during their stay locally.

Vina Phu Quoc Travel also received three similar groups of Lao businesspeople numbering 50 in December 2021.

They come here to play golf and casino, said Nguyen Vu Khac Huy, director of Vina Phu Quoc Travel, adding two of them also arrived in Kien Giang in December.

This will be the last group of foreign visitors to Vietnam in general and Phu Quoc in particular under an ongoing pilot scheme to welcome back foreign tourists with vaccine passports before Vietnam reopens its borders to international tourism on March 15, said Huy, who is also vice chairman of the Kien Giang Tourism Association.

The Prime Minister approved a pilot programme to welcome back foreign visitors with vaccine passports to Vietnam in mid-November 2021. To retain the country’s tourism competitiveness, the PM later decided to reopen all borders to international tourism, starting on March 15.
