Vietnam and Cambodia cooperate to restore tourism

(TITC) – On November 26, Mr. Ha Van Sieu, Vice Chairman of Vietnam National Administration of Tourism and Mr. Thong Rathasak, General Director of Tourism Development and International Cooperation Department co-chaired the second virutal meeting of Cambodia – Vietnam joint tourism working group in order to discuss on cooperation to restore and restart tourism between the two countries.

This is a regular and important meeting in the context that the two countries are shifting their response to the COVID-19 pandemic from no community COVID cases to proactively and flexibly adapting to COVID-19.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Thong Rathasak said that Cambodia has fully vaccinated more than 90% of the population in the prescribed age. With those efforts, Cambodia's Ministry of Tourism allows fully vaccinated international tourists to enter Cambodia through all international border gates (including land, air and sea) from November 15, 2021.

Visitors will be required to have: (i) Certificate of full vaccination against COVID-19 and (ii) Certificate of "Negative" PCR test result valid for COVID-19 treatment for 72 hours. In addition, visitors will be required to COVID-19 test. If the result is negative, visitors will be able to travel in around Cambodia.

For international visitors who have not been vaccinated against COVID-19 come to Cambodia, they will have to have a PCR test for COVID-19 at the border and take 14-day medical isolation.

Sharing about Vietnam tourism recovery, VNAT’s Vice Chairman Ha Van Sieu said that when Vietnam inject enough vaccines for over 70% of the adult population to create herd immunity, international tourism activities will be reopened normally.

After nearly 20 months of closing international tourism, Vietnam has piloted to welcome international tourists back to the country in November 2021. Currently and in the immediate future, 5 destinations to welcome international tourists are Phu Quoc Island (Kien Giang), Khanh Hoa, Da Nang, Quang Nam and Quang Ninh.

“We believe that the tourism industry of our two countries will soon overcome the difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Domestic and international tourism activities will quickly recover to the highest level. Cambodia and Vietnam have been and will continue to be one of each other's leading sending and receiving markets; The tourism industry will continue to make great contributions to the economic and social development of each country”, Mr. Ha Van Sieu said.

He hoped that tourism industry of two countries will soon overcome this difficult time and quickly recover, and hope to see face to face at ATF 2022 in Sihanoukville, Cambodia and MTF 2022 in Hoi An, Vietnam.
