Dien Bien named as host for Hoa Ban Festival 2021
Update: Oct 15, 2020
The Hoa Ban Festival 2021, a popular spring flower festival which is held annually in the north and northwestern region, is due to take place in the northern mountainous province of Dien Bien between January and May.

A number of key events are scheduled to be held in Dien Bien Phu city between March 12 and March 15, including the opening ceremony of the Hoa Ban Festival 2021 which will take place on the evening of March 13 at Square 7/5.

Most notably, a street parade and folk games will be held so that tourists can soak up the festive atmosphere alongside local people.

Furthermore, a photo exhibition featuring the traditional culture of Dien Bien’s ethnic groups is expected to occur alongside a series of art performances, including folk singing and dancing.

The festival takes its name from the hoa ban, also known as orchid trees, which is widely considered to be the most beautiful flower in the north and northwestern region.

The event was first held back in 2014 to mark the 60th anniversary of the nation’s victory during the Battle of Dien Bien Phu. Since then, it has been held annually with the aim of preserving and promoting the cultural values of various ethnic groups in Dien Bien province.
