Tourists travelling to the top of Fansipan, the nation’s tallest mountain located in the northern province of Lao Cai, were amazed to find ice and frost lining the rocks and pagoda on the morning of December 5.
The morning of December 5 saw temperatures in nearby Sapa town drop to below 10 degrees Celsius, whilst temperatures at the peak of Fansipan plummeted to minus 4 degrees Celsius.
Despite the cold, plenty of visitors were keen to climb to the peak of Fansipan to enjoy the area’s stunning landscapes. Some even wrote a letter in the frost to mark special occasion.
The frost and ice can be attributed to low temperatures, which first hit the north several days ago, causing plenty of cold air to sweep through the region.
Ice covers a bunch of wild flowers, making it appear even more beautiful than usual.
According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the night of December 4 moving into the early morning of December 5, saw ice and frost grip Fansipan. However, temperatures are expected to gradually rise in Sapa over the coming days.
Plenty of thin ice can be seen on the edge of rocks, the pagoda, banisters, and the flagpole. This is the first time that frost has appeared at the peak of Fansipan this year.
