Viet Nam, Japan honour traditional silk, brocade weaving

An exchange event introducing the woven silk and brocade products of Viet Nam and Japan opened in Hoi An ancient city in the central province of Quang Nam on August 18, as part of the 16th Hoi An-Japan Cultural Exchange.

The event aims to honour Vietnamese artists, traditional craft villages and famous silk and brocade weaving destinations, as well as Japan’s silk products, with the intent of contributing to the development of traditional silk and brocade weaving in Viet Nam.

There are a series of activities, including an exhibition of the latest products of leading brands from Viet Nam and Japan and a symposium on the conservation and development of traditional silk and brocade weaving.

In addition, fashion shows featuring silk clothing created by Vietnamese and Japanese designers and the Kimono, a traditional Japanese garment, will be held within the event.

The Japan Cultural Day in Quang Nam and the 16th Hoi An-Japan Cultural Exchange are being jointly organised in Hoi An city from August 17-19 by the provincial People’s Committee, the Japanese Embassy in Viet Nam, and agencies, organisations and businesses in Quang Nam and Japan.
