The New Year celebration of the H’Mong is divided into two parts: the ritual practices (taking place at home) and the celebrations.

This year’s event will touch only on the celebration part, which aims to bring young people together through traditional games such as nem pao, danh yen, danh cu, and folk songs. During the celebration, the H’Mong also arrange weddings for couples. One of their popular practices is “haib puj” (rough translation: take the wife).

The event will be held by Action for H’mong Development, which is a group of young H'mong ethnic people who are living and studying in Ha Noi.

It was established by 12 members from northern mountainous provinces such as Yen Bai, Lao Cai, Son La, Dien Bien, Ha Giang in August 2015 under the support of the Institute for Studies of Society, Economy and Environment (iSEE).
