Viet Nam attends UNWTO/UNESCO World Conference on Tourism and Culture in Oman

(TITC) – From 11 and 12 December 2017, Chairman of Viet Nam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT), Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan led the Vietnamese delegation to attend the conference UNWTO/UNESCO World Conference on Tourism and Culture held in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman.

At the dialogue on Tourism, Culture and Sustainable Development, the delegations discussed the development of tourism, economic, cultural-social and environmental contribution of tourism development; the promotion of cultural exchanges and the creation of resources for the protection of tangible and intangible heritage; contribution of tourism and culture to the 17 sustainable development goals of United Nations.

According to Chairman Nguyen Van Tuan, from a poor country, Viet Nam has transformed into a dynamic economy. In terms of tourism, in 1994, Viet Nam welcomed 1 million international tourist arrivals. In 2016, Viet Nam for the first time received over 10 million international tourist arrivals, increasing by 26% over 2015. Domestic visitors reached 62 million trippers, increasing by 8.8%.

Speaking at the dialogue, Mr. Taleb Rifai, Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization, emphasized that Viet Nam and other countries are a successful story of tourism contributing to the change of the country, attracting international friends.
