Airlines, railway cut prices to lure tourists to southern localities

A promotional campaign has been launched by the two carriers Vietjet Air and Vietnam Airlines, as well as Sai Gon Railway Transport Joint Stock Company, to lure tourists to Ho Chi Minh (HCM) city and southern localities on off-peak flights and trains during the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday 2017.

Specifically, from January 14th to February 10th, Vietjet Air will cut ticket prices of flights from Da Lat, Phu Quoc, Pleiku, Da Nang, Hue, Hai Phong and Ha Noi to HCM city with the lowest reduction of 12% and the highest decrease of 98%.

The Sai Gon Railway Transport Joint Stock Company will offer 50% discount than the current price applicable for tourist delegations. Specifically, from January 3rd to 28th, the discount will be applied for departure stations on the North-South route and arrival station being Sai Gon. From February 1st to 18th, the price cut will be applied for trains with departure station being Sai Gon and all arrival stations on the North-South route.

Vietjet Airlines will sell tickets on Ha Noi - HCM city route before January 27th and HCM city - Ha Noi route after February 1st at price of VND2.3 million for round trips, excluding 10% and additional fees of VND160,000 per passenger. The flights will depart before 7:30 and after 18:30.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Khanh, Deputy Head of the Ho Chi Minh Tourism Association, said that this is the first time transport and tourism businesses cooperated to attract tourists to the southern localities.

According to statistics by the HCM Department of Tourism, the city served about 21.8 million domestic tourists in 2016. As planned, the southern hub will provide services for about 24 million domestic arrivals.
