Various activities to celebrate the 250th birth anniversary of great poet Nguyen Du

(TITC) – At the press conference held on November 17, 2015, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Mr. Vuong Duy Bien informed a wide range of activities to celebrate the 250th birth anniversary of Nguyen Du (1765-2015) – a national great poet and World Cultural Celebrity.

These activities are organized to affirm great poet Nguyen Du’s talent and excellent contributions to the culture of Viet Nam and humanity.

During his life (1765 – 1820), Nguyen Du created many immortal works of literature in both ancient Vietnamese and Han script, of which ‘‘Tale of Kieu’’ - one of the greatest works of ancient Vietnamese literature raised reputation of Nguyen Du as world great man.

In 1965, on the occasion of his 200th birthday, Nguyen Du was recognized as a World Cultural Celebrity by UNESCO. According to the Resolution 37C/15 promulgated at the 37th session of the General Assembly of UNESCO (on 25 October 2013, in Paris), Nguyen Du will be honored together with other 107 World Celebrities in Viet Nam and other UNESCO member states (2014-2015).

The anniversary will feature main activities such as conferences in Viet Nam and foreign countries; making documentary film, works of music and art about Nguyen Du’s life and career; contests of reciting Kieu poem, talking about Nguyen Du’s works; response activities in Ha Noi Capital, Bac Ninh Province – his mother’s home village. Besides, various activities in the framework of Nguyen Du Culture, Tourism Week will take place from 28 November to 5 December 2015 in Ha Tinh Province – his hometown like public art performance festival; Contest of tour guides in Ha Tinh’s destinations; Exhibition on Nguyen Du’s literatural works...

The official celebration will be organized on December 5, 2015 in Ha Tinh City with an art performance themed ‘‘Whose poem reverberates upon earth and heaven (Tiếng thơ ai động đất trời)’’.
