At the dialogue on Tourism, Culture and Sustainable Development, the delegations discussed the development of tourism, economic, cultural-social and environmental contribution of tourism development; the promotion of cultural exchanges and the creation of resources for the protection of intangible and intangible heritage; contribution of tourism and culture to the 17 sustainable development goals of United Nations.
According to Chairman Nguyen Van Tuan, from a poor country, Viet Nam has transformed into a dynamic economy. In terms of tourism, in 1994, Viet Nam welcomed 1 million international tourist arrivals. In 2016, Viet Nam for the first time received over 10 million international tourist arrivals, increasing by 26% over 2015. Domestic visitors reached 62 million, increasing by 8.8%.
Speaking at the dialogue, Mr. Taleb Rifai, Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization, emphasized that Viet Nam and other countries are a successful story of tourism contributing to the change of the country, attracting international friends.
