On the occasion of the 29th SEA Games to take place in Malaysia from 19-31 August, Mr. Zamruni Khalid invited Minister Nguyen Ngoc Thien to attend the opening ceremony and wished Vietnamese sport delegation to win high prizes at the biggest sport event in Southeast Asia. He also appreciated the relay in response to the 29th SEA Games held in Ha Noi in April which contributed to promote the event to Vietnamese people.
Accepting the invitation of the Ambassador and expressing thankfulness for his wish, Minister Nguyen Ngoc Thien stressed that Vietnamese sport delegation attending the 29th SEA Games not only strived for best results, but also hoped to learn more about the organization of such events.
Aiming to strengthen cooperation on the field of culture, Minister Nguyen Ngoc Thien suggested the two sides should support each orther to organize art performances, exhibitions, cultural festivals, particularly in the year 2018 celebrating 45th anniversary of Viet Nam - Malaysia diplomatic relation.
At the meeting, the two sides also agreed to continue boosting tourism cooperation through promotion activities, connecting tours, human resource training and travel facilitation.
In recent years, the number of visitors travelling between Viet Nam and Malaysia has been increasing thanks to visa exemption from September 2001 and convenient air connection. In 2016, there were more than 407,000 Malaysian arrivals to Viet Nam, increasing 17.6% over 2015 and over 264,000 arrivals in first 7 months of 2017, rising 16.9% compared to the same period last year.
