In attendance were leaders of ASEAN NTOs, ASEAN – China Centre (ACC), ASEAN – Japan Centre (AJC), ASEAN – Korea Centre (AKC), German’s international development cooperation agency (GIZ), ASEAN Tourism Association (ASEANTA), ASEAN Tourism Research Association (ATRA), Southeast Asia Tourist Guides Association (SEATGA), and ASEAN Cycling Club 1 (1ACC).
Being important partners of ASEAN, in recent years, ASEAN – China Centre (ACC), ASEAN – Japan Centre (AJC) and ASEAN – Korea Centre (AKC) have made significant contributions to boosting cooperation and exchange, particularly in the fields of tourism and culture. Also China, Republic of Korea and Japan are leading source markets of ASEAN tourism. At the meeting, ACC, AJC and AKC affirmed to continue to support ASEAN with tourism promotion, tourist exchange, training courses, etc
Discussing about tourism cooperation with ASEAN, GIZ informed that in 2017-2018, the agency will continue to provide assistance for countries of Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Viet Nam (CLMV) in boosting trade - investment, public and private partnerships; increasing competitive capacity of small and medium-sized enterprises; supporting the implementation of MRA-TP, etc.
In addition, ASEANTA, ATRA, SEATGA, 1ACC highly valued the tourism potential of ASEAN and hoped to receive further supports from ASEAN NTOs in the coming time.
Speaking highly of activities organized by the associations in supporting ASEAN tourism such as booking services, air transport, development of ASEAN package tours, sustainable tourism development, ASEAN Scholarships, cycling tours through ASEAN countries, the chairman of the meeting recommended the private sector to strengthen cooperation with ASEAN NTOs to boost tourism within the region and promote ASEAN as a common destination.
