This is one of the largest annual events of the world tourism industry, which brings together tourism leaders, public and private sectors, experts and leading media agencies in the world. In attendance were Mr. David Scowsill – President and CEO of WTTC, Mr. Taleb Rifai – Secretary General of UNWTO, Mr. Prayut Chan-o-cha – Prime Minister of Thailand, and Mr. David Cameron – former Prime Minister of UK. The Vietnamese delegation led by Mr. Ha Van Sieu – Vice Chairman of Viet Nam National Administration of Tourism participated in the event.
The summit focused on a wide range of major themes such as globalization and policy changes in some countries, collaboration for transformation, taking shape travel and tourism in a changing world, tourism’s contribution to sustainable development goals. In addition, ASEAN’s role, response to crisis, characteristics of visitors in the new era were also discussed at the summit.
According to a survey conducted at the summit, most participants were confident that tourism could contribute to transforming the world for sustainable development, especially directly to achieving 3 of 17 UN’s sustainable development goals by 2030, including job creation and economic development; responsible consumption and production; sustainable use of the oceans, seas and marine resources.
At the summit, delegates also agreed that the global tourism industry needs to adapt quickly to the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Tourism enterprises should focus on providing diversified and useful information, acting timely and creating new sustainable values.
