Ko Tao is an isolated island in the Gulf of Thailand, 45 km to the northwest of Amphoe Ko Pha-ngan. In the past, the Department of Corrections used it as a detention camp for political prisoners (the Bowondet Rebellion) under the rule of the People’s Party.
